NFL Week 13/14
Week 13 power rankings, Bears talk, and Week 14 game picks with OPRF wide receiver EJ Locke
Week 13 Power Rankings
- Chiefs: The Chiefs didn’t look great in their victory over the Broncos, as they struggled in the red zone and only won by six. Nevertheless, they are still the reigning Super Bowl champs and have the favorite to win this year’s MVP award.
- Saints: Even after their close win over the Falcons, the Saints jumped up one spot this week by virtue of the Steelers loss. The Saints are a good team, but they need Drew Brees to come back. While Taysom Hill has not played terribly, I have not been impressed with his performance thus far. I would like to see Jameis Winston take some snaps to see if he has learned from Brees.
- Packers: The Packers have a case for being in the second spot after their performance against the Eagles. Not only did Aaron Rodgers throw for 3 touchdowns, but running back Aaron Jones also impressed, running for 130 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown run. With their record at 9-3, they are a lock to win the NFC North.
- Steelers: I think a Steelers loss had been imminent for a while, but I did not expect it to be the unnamed team that ruined their perfect season. The Steelers offense has to start performing better if they are going to give the Chiefs a run for their money.
- Bills: The Bills may be the most underrated team in the league. They’re sitting atop the AFC East with a 9-3 record, and their only losses being to the Chiefs, Titans, and the DeAndre Hopkins “Hail Murrary.” However, Miami is only one game back of them in the division, and a tough matchup against the Steelers this week could put the Bills’ playoff spot in jeopardy.
- Browns: The Browns proved they are legit. Up to this point, the Browns defense was leading them to victories over mediocre teams. But their dominant road win over the Titans was impressive, especially because it was led by the offense.
- Rams: The Rams looked good Thursday night against the Patriots, winning 24-3. Despite the win, Jared Goff is still not playing up to his Pro Bowl potential. However, with an elite defense highlighted by the league’s best secondary, the Rams can match up with any team, no matter what offense they face.
- Colts: That was a close game they played on Sunday, but they got the job done. They have a narrow one-game lead over the Raiders, who they play on Sunday. The Colts are going to have to play their best football from here on out if they want to make the playoffs.
- Seahawks: The Seahawks are still a top ten team, but also one of the most inconsistent teams. Last week’s game against the Giants was maybe the best example of this. While their defense showed further improvement, the reliable Russell Wilson turned the ball over twice as the Seahawks only managed to put up 12 points. This Seattle team seems to be streaky, so they need to hope a win against the Jets this week can start a run.
- Titans: After a big victory against the Colts in week 12, the Titans disappointed against the Browns. Derrick Henry is a monster and Ryan Tannehill is having a good season, but the defense is going to have to step up if the Titans are going to win the AFC South.

What’s up wit Da Bears
I’m 99 percent certain this is my last time writing this piece. I’m just done with the Bears. I can’t believe they found a way to lose that game. With six minutes left in the game, the Bears had the ball around midfield with a 10 point lead. It is difficult to lose under those circumstances, but the Bears found a way to do it.
Mitchell Trubisky and the offense actually played a good game, and, even though it was against the Lions, 30 points is nothing to scoff at. The offensive attack was fairly balanced as well, as the Bears passed for 267 and rushed for 140, one of their best rushing performances of the season. The Bears have been able to get Allen Robinson more involved since Trubisky’s return, as he caught 14 passes for 149 yards in the last two games. Unfortunately, it seems that the front office hasn’t made much of an effort to get him to stay, so he will probably leave Chicago this offseason.
The defensive performance was the biggest letdown for the Bears this week. The defense didn’t play well in week 12 either, but that was understandable, considering the game was at Lambeau, and the Bears were without Akiem Hicks. But Hicks was back against the Lions, and even though the Bears did alright stopping the run, they gave up 402 pass yards.
At 5-7, it is highly unlikely the Bears will make the playoffs this year. Personally, I feel that if the Bears lose again this week, the front office will have good reason to fire Matt Nagy. Other than the 2018 season, Nagy hasn’t really done that much for the team. I think the Bears can find success in the years to come, but first, changes must be made.
