Girls Volleyball captains Kinsey Smith and Grace Nelson are leading their team through a winning season.
Senior setter Smith, a Davidson College commit, and outside hitter Nelson, a University of Kansas commit, recently achieved immense milestones.
Since transferring to Oak Park and River Forest High School starting her junior year, Smith has reached 1,500 assists in fewer than two seasons. Earlier this season, Nelson was able to grasp onto an ongoing total of 1,000 kills throughout her high school career.
As of press time, the Huskies are ranked fifth in the state of Illinois, according to Max Preps, with a record of 26-6, including 4-1 in conference play.
Despite the loss next year of three key current starters in seniors Smith, Nelson and libero Keira Kleidon, the Huskies have a promising future with returning players. Emerging juniors Gaby Towns, Phoebe Shorney and sophomore Samantha Shelton look to continue the talent brought by this Huskies team in recent years.
The fans of Huskies volleyball haven’t disappointed, with a completely full student section for the homecoming game against Willowbrook High School. And, without a doubt, there was a packed house earlier this season to watch the Huskies partake in the dismantling of Fenwick High School.
The IHSA regional matches, the first round of the playoffs, start Oct. 23 and continue through Oct. 26.
