Two beloved therapy dogs, Opie and Ollie, returned to Oak Park and River Forest High School on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The dogs were available in the Student Activity Center during students’ lunch periods.
The event, aptly named “PAWsitivity Day,” was organized by OPRF HYPE (Healthy Youth Peer Educators) students. Junior HYPE member Zoie Segbawu said the event “gives an opportunity for students to de-stress during their lunch period.”
Opie’s owner, Jeff Schofield, said, it’s “just a really awesome feeling to show how much (Opie) can do in a short amount of time with kids.”
If students missed this event, the dogs will be back once a quarter this year, according to HYPE sponsor Ginger Bencola–an increase from last year, due to popular demand. The therapy dogs are the “most popular wellness activity,” said Bencola.
