Oak Park and River Forest High School hosted the Cross Country Night of Miles on the school’s new track on Aug. 16. Participants raced against each other in friendly competition. Their entry fees were $5 for first through eighth graders, $10 for community members. All proceeds went towards the boys and girls cross country programs.
Runners were divided into groups by age and speed, creating several different events for people to race in. All these events were followed by the high school runners completing their two mile time trials to conclude the night.
The night was organized by cross country head coaches Chris Baldwin and Ashley Raymond. The night provided a lively kickoff to the cross country season for the whole community. “It started this year because we had a track but we’re hoping to continue this tradition,” said senior Caroline Vitzen.
