The bagel. A delicious boiled dough served with cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers. A good bagel is, in my humble opinion, essential to a great start to any day. However, this delicacy can be difficult to find in its proper form here in Oak Park.
But tucked away at the northeast corner of Chicago and Lombard avenues sits the black awning of The Daly Bagel. This local eatery, owned by Amanda Daly, was first opened out of her kitchen in early 2018. Since then it has grown into a very popular bagel and baked goods spot, one that also serves up a variety of delicious beverages.
Of course, along with my bagel (my personal favorite of theirs is “The Obvious” sandwich), it was compulsory for me to order a chai. Because I was feeling adventurous on this particular day, I ordered my chai with whole milk, and I was not disappointed.
While the chai itself was slightly milky in taste, the surprising spice made up for it. When drinking chai it is essential to taste a slight tinge of spice, not so much that it causes discomfort but just enough to bring out the flavor of the drink itself. This chai accomplished that perfectly, leaving behind a pleasant twinge of spice while still feeling ultimately refreshing. It does stand to be said that there is a taste difference between an iced chai which I myself ordered and a hot chai, but in order to gauge the quality of the hot version you will have to go try it for yourself.
Overall, between the delicious bagels and pleasantly spicy chai, I would give The Daly Bagel a 3.5/5 stars, making it a solid buy in my books.
