Autumn sports have come to a close, and as the air begins to chill, tryouts and open gyms for the winter sports at Oak Park and River Forest High School are beginning. One of these is indoor track and field.
Head Distance Coach Ashley Raymond said that the three main priorities of a track athlete are “to show up every day, bring your best attitude and be coachable…learn and improve.” All athletes with the goal of improvement are encouraged to show up and put in the effort.
The open gyms, which started Dec. 2, are held after school Monday through Thursday in the Field House. Open gym helps athletes try out different activities as well as stay consistent with their training. Following the few weeks of open gym, the season will officially be set in motion on Jan. 20.
As the weather gets warmer and the chilly days come to a close former and new athletes interested in running, throwing and jumping are invited back on the track to finish off the school year for the outdoor track season.
