“Artist in Focus” is a new feature series showcasing talented artists at Oak Park and River Forest High School. Each artist shares how they got started and why they love what they do.
Luke Fougere: In the March edition of Trapeze, senior Luke Fougere was recognized for his artistic abilities both in visual arts and music. Fougere enjoys both sketching and painting, and has taken several art classes at OPRF over the course of his four years. Fougere also plays the guitar and piano, and is part of a local band called North Grove. He has also released an album of his own called “Firelogs.” In the fall, Fougere will attend the Illinois Institute of Technology to study civil engineering and play lacrosse.
Kanohi Gurgas: In the April 1 edition of Trapeze, Kanohi Gurgas, a senior, was highlighted for her talents in costume design. Gurgas joined the OPRF costume crew in her freshman year and has been sewing for her whole life. She has worked on 18 shows, and
been the head costumer for eight. For the most recent mainstage musical, “Cinderella,” Gurgas designed the costumes for all 92 cast members, including three dresses that transformed live on stage. In the fall, Gurgas will attend New York University to study costume design and mathematics.
Alex Medina: In the April 28 edition of Trapeze, senior Alex Medina was featured for his work in the performing arts. Medina has been involved in dance, singing and acting since he was seven. He has participated in the OPRF school musicals, most recently starring as Prince Topher in Cinderella, as well as in productions with Encore through Ovation. Additionally, Medina has competed with the OPRF Speech Team at the state and national level. Medina has many academic achievements as well, landing him a full ride to the University of Michigan’s musical theater program, where he will attend in the fall.
