This week, I returned to a new favorite spot of mine to quench my thirst: The Wolf.
This shop at 134 N. Oak Park Ave. serves various Vietnamese dishes such as banh mi (a Vietnamese sandwich, which is exceptional, by the way), but their boba is what really keeps me coming back. I usually get the passion fruit green tea with 25% sugar and extra lychee jelly, and that is definitely what I will be ordering from now on.
However, I did not have the greatest experience with the boba I chose for today’s review, but that’s sort of on me. For this review, I got the oolong milk tea with boba and mochi. When the description said mochi, I assumed it meant tiny mochi balls/pellets like they have at Red Mango, but I was mistaken. They instead have mochi jelly.
The texture was personally not for me, but the milk tea itself was quite high quality and not too sweet while also keeping the flavor of the oolong. I would order it again, but without the mochi for sure, which is what I recommend for anyone reading this today.
This is honestly the only time that The Wolf has disappointed me in the many times I have been there, and I would like to make it clear that this is not a negative review! They consistently deliver both high quality eats as well as drinks. Their delivery service is efficient, and the staff is well trained. I highly encourage the OPRF student population to visit this cute little establishment especially because we need more actual good Vietnamese food in Oak Park ever since Saigon Cafe sadly left us.
It is kiosk only, and the prices are very reasonable compared to some other boba places in the area (at least in my opinion). My go-to order usually costs around $7 to $8 dollars, and that includes the add-ons.
Please make sure to give them a try on your next lunch break! Until next time…
