The Oak Park and River Forest High School Hockey Club opened their 2025-2026 home slate at Ridgeland Commons with a 5-3 loss to Buffalo Grove, Hersey, Wheeling Hockey Club. It was a chippy, back-and-forth battle between the Huskies and BGHW, with a raucous crowd.
OPRF had goals by sophomore Tommy Ignoffo and seniors Sebastian Robinson and Jackson Schott.
Trevor Moen gave up four goals while also making stellar saves, including a two on one short-handed breakaway in the later stages of the second period.
The game was tied with just under three minutes to go, until a two-minute minor penalty was called on OPRF forward Sebastian Robinson. BGHW scored on the ensuing power play and then added an empty net goal to win 5-3.
After the game, Robinson said, “I made a selfish, stupid penalty… so I take that one home with me, think about it and make sure, you know, I’m not making that mistake again.”
The Huskies will try to rebound on Friday Sept. 19 on the road against Glenbard. They return home on Sept. 21 against Evanston in the back half of a home and home.
