Soccer starts fresh

Stepping onto the field for the first game felt a bit strange for the OPRF Boy’s Soccer team. Only five returning Varsity players were on the pitch. New coach Jason Fried and the team were ready to take on this seasons challenges.

This year, the soccer team started fresh. Seniors Flynn Sheehan and Devin Cuneen agreed they “love Fried.” They said he has made the transition from coach Paul Wright easy because of his motivational coaching style.

We have really have emphasized and stressed the importance of possessing the ball, playing fast and creating opportunities and applying pressure as a team,” said Fried about the team’s dynamic.

Last year, the boy’s soccer program did not do as well as hoped. Current team members expect to do better. “This year is a lot different than last year,” said Cuneen. Cuneen said he believes the team is filled with a great amount of talent from the juniors and sophomores and then said “We want to win state and play our game.”
