The Oak Park River Forest Girls Lacrosse Team played a hard fought game against the Lyons Township Lions, losing 8-9. The game took place at the OPRF stadium on April 11 in an intense West Suburban conference game.
The Lions controlled most of the game, tallying two goals early and capitalizing on multiple Huskies penalties to control momentum. As the game progressed, the Huskies proved they could make a late push in the game, even scoring three goals in the later stages of the fourth quarter to put the game within one.
Although the Huskies gave it their all, Lyons Township ultimately held on and handed the Huskies their first loss of the year.
OPRF had goals from seniors Madeleine Magnuson and Tess Cronin, and freshman Ava Schoeffel.
Senior Goalie, Megan Dauphinee (also a Trapeze staffer) made a timely save in the first quarter, blocking a laser shot while quickly moving her feet side to side in the net. Dauphinee’s save shifted the momentum of the game, and ultimately was a big reason OPRF made a late push.
After the game, Coach James Borja reflected on the team’s performance, saying, “The team showed a lot of resilience.” He added, “they have the belief that they can play with anyone and will be difficult to beat down the stretch.”
Borja further explained the improvement that the team needs going forward, saying “many of these girls haven’t played with each other, so the more games they play together the better chemistry they will have.”
After falling to the Hinsdale Central Red Devils on April 14, the Huskies record sits at 2-2. The Huskies are also 0-2 in the West Suburban conference and sit at seventh place. The Huskies will look to get back on track against the Barrington Broncos on April 15 in attempts to gain back momentum down the stretch of the year.
