The Oak Park and River Forest High School Varsity Girls Lacrosse team lost 9-12 in the “battle of the Huskies” to Naperville North, setting their record at 2-7, at press time. The non-conference game was also the team’s “stick it to cancer” charity fundraiser.
Senior Tess Cronin starred during the game, scoring six of OPRF’s points. Cronin said her goals going into the game were to “play smart, play hard and to make key plays to increase our team’s momentum.”
Naperville North went up 3-2 in the first quarter, with both of OPRF goals scored by Cronin. The first half ended tied 5-5, with OPRF goals scored by senior Madeleine Magnuson, freshman Lily Lombardo and Cronin.
Naperville marched ahead during the third quarter, with the score at 8-10, with two more goals from Cronin and one from junior Miriam Beutler. In the fourth quarter, Cronin scored one more goal, and Naperville North scored two more, putting the final score at 9-12.
Cronin said that the team “struggled coming back after halftime with the same intensity that we went into the game with.”
The game was called the “battle of the Huskies,” since both teams have Huskies as their mascot, and have an orange and blue color scheme.
The Huskies are currently 0-2 in conference play. They play away at Fenwick on April 27.
“My team will continue to work hard so we can get the outcome that we know we can achieve,” said Cronin.
