An unlikely connection develops between a popular athletic boy and a girl homebound by illness in the play “I & You,” to run from May 22 to June 6 at Madison Street Theater in Oak Park.
Working together on a poetry project for English class “unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together,” according to the publisher, Concord Theatricals.
“I & You” has received critical acclaim since it was first produced in 2014 for the Marin Theatre Company in California. In a 2017 article in The New Yorker, Daniel Pollack-Pelzner wrote, “By the close, Gunderson has guided us toward a sublime transfiguration that encompasses “Leaves of Grass,” John Coltrane, Jerry Lee Lewis, space and time, bodies and spirits, death and rebirth.”
Madison Street Theater’s production is directed by Jolaine Orlin and performed by Abby Ciabaton and Kody Smith. Tickets are available at the Madison Street Theater website. Student tickets are available for $15.
