Fed-up Democrats, Republicans start own countries

Political polarization has reached an all-time high, with Democrats and Republicans increasingly unable to agree.

Faced with the inability to solve even the most basic problems, the United States federal government announced a dramatic step last Friday: the nation will be split into two new countries, one Democratic and one Republican.

With the Mississippi River as the dividing line, the western land will be exclusively Democrat while the eastern nation will be Republican. A 100-foot-high metal fence has been set up in order to ensure division. The fence is said to be equipped with motion sensors that detect any movement. If detected, alarms are set off immediately.

The two countries will have completely separate governments, so that people who disagree never have to come into close proximity with each other.

President Joe Biden made a statement saying that, “This future step will have a positive impact on our society because we won’t have to deal with the other side disagreeing with us.”

Top Republicans agreed. “Finally, we’re free of all their terrible policies,” said House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The federal government also aims to create laws that make it illegal to interact with someone of the opposite party.

Sylvia Fox, a political researcher and reporter, shared her thoughts on the newly formed countries and what this means for the future. “Starting in 2020, it was obvious that things were declining pretty quickly,” she said.  “The division that occurred was an inevitable part of America’s history.”

“Even now, each nation is changing and becoming different from the other,” she continued. “Hopefully, the future of these two nations will be brighter than ever now that everyone agrees on the same policies.”

Since the announcement was made, differences in the neighboring countries have already been visible by many. But even establishing two separate countries hasn’t ended the disagreements.

The splitting countries have also caused widespread violence along the Mississippi river. According to George Mooney, a father of five who lives just west of the Mississippi, “Every morning around 5 a.m., I hear the roars and gunshots of the borderline just half a mile from my house.”

He stated that his neighbors had been complaining about a sign that they saw across the river, just over the fence, that had “provoked them to turn to violence. It was something about a limited central government and lower taxes.”

In response, the Democratic side put up its own sign about “expansive social programs,” Mooney recalled.

That only led to more fighting. “I had to create sound-proof rooms for my children because they kept waking up from all of the noise,” Mooney said.

The result of the division goes beyond politics. New data coming out yesterday from the National Weather Service shows dramatic differences in weather between the countries. Cory Lane, a reporter from the NWS, reports on the situation.

“World-record droughts have been recorded across the entire eastern land while the western land is almost underwater from all the rain that’s been going on. It’s almost as if the division has only caused more chaos to the people,” Lane remarked.

Contrary to the historic belief that discussions held between differing parties are healthy, the national problem of political polarization in the United States has been solved.
